Hippie Chay in Munich

Ordered there for the first time on Friday (01/08/21). What was only a coincidence, has more than paid off with the extremely friendly voice on the phone, the uncomplicated later pick-up and a really delicious meal (had the Summer Salad, Bao Bun and Dumplings)! The restaurant with its delicious food can only be recommended and we will definitely order something again, or even better, go to eat there once the restaurants open.

Take away during lockdown, the bao bun was SO tasty. Spring roll was good but I didn’t really enjoy the texture of the fake “beef”.

We went there before second lockdown in October. I loved the vegan sushi so much! Although the rice was not very sticky it was tasty. Service was good and friendly. If you are looking for vegan alternatives it is worth a visit.

Food is good, but getting a seat there is not so easy. The reservation system is junk and makes you wait forever only to give a rejection.

There were two of us here for dinner and had a starter and main course. All the food and the homemade lemonade was extremely tasty. Very aromatic, natural and fresh with good ingredients. The shop is one of my favorite shops in Munich. The food is delicious, the waitresses are very friendly. I like the atmosphere on site and (it can't be said often enough) the food is just delicious.

We decided to book a table a previous day and were happy we did so, because the place got full in no time. The staff is very quickly, efficient and helpful, the food comes after a short waiting time. We had three starters and to mains. The starters were ok, with nice spring rolls and bao bun and quite tasteless "calamari". Wonderful sauces and dips though! As for the mains, banh mi was unfortunately not available, so I had the monk soup with fabulous won tans and a very aromatic broth and my partner went for udon noodles. We were missing more taste and spices, as all the dishes were kind of plain. But overall, very positive experience, and the prices are fair.

The two of us spent a very nice evening here. I made the reservation online on the same day and (I guess due to the later opening times on Saturday) this was confirmed to me by phone and again by SMS. We were warmly welcomed and accompanied to our table. The drinks were delicious and there was a wide selection of homemade limos and cocktails (I think 0.0 alcohol in the entire shop). The starter came super quickly and really made you want more. If you are here with friends, you can also do a kind of tapatic in advance, because everything is really promising. The main courses are bigger than they seem and the vegan toppings (duck, chicken and beef variants, beyond meat, tofu, monkey) are really suitable and appealing. The service was consistently excellent, there is apparently either an incredibly pleasant working atmosphere or someone here has a knack for selecting personnel. By the way, my companion was eating Vietnamese for the first time and does not eat exclusively vegan or vegetarian and was blown away! We will definitely come again!

I would like to avoid giving a star at all, but unfortunately that is not possible. Although I initially ordered my dish specifically without coriander, it was initially served with coriander. Upon my complaint, the plate was taken away and the coriander was obviously only superficially removed from it, so that it could still be tasted clearly. I only ate a small portion of the portion; When clearing the table, the waitress asked if I would like to have the rest of the bag packed; I pointed out that there was still coriander in the dish. She made me pay for the court without further comment; when saying goodbye she said "see you next time". When I replied that I will certainly not come back, she reproached me for pointing out that there was still coriander in my dish and she asked me if I was allergic to it. - In short: unfriendly, bad service, inedible food and long waiting times - you can eat better vegan than in any other restaurant in Munich!

One of my favourite vegan places in munich. It’s really nicely decorated inside. There’s outside seating available too. The food is absolutely to die for. Definitely get the dessert!!! 11/10 !!! I come for the amazing food but the staff there is AMAZING too. they’re always super helpful, kind & alsways have a smile on their face ?

The menu was fabulous and had many unique and classic offerings. The food and drinks were refreshing and tasty, plus I think the portion size/value is strong. You will leave with a full belly and satisfied taste buds (I read the reviews about temperature problems I.e. hot beverages and cold meals, we didn’t experience that whatsoever, the timing and temps were very good) The service was above and beyond friendly and accommodating. Plus the server and hostess offered great tips for what to order. Also they speak English well if you are still learning German like I am. This is probably cultural but the only piece missing and the reason for the 4/5 stars was that we were a bit rushed out and hurried because they had another reservation. While I understand they have a business to run, we also had a reservation and took what I consider to be a normal amount of time for eating. Would have been nicer if we could enjoy dessert after the meal. Overall, I would recommend and I would return!

We drove an hour and a half to eat there - the place really makes a great impression online - but unfortunately we were disappointed. First of all, I have to say that I find it super unprofessional, disgusting and repulsive when a waitress has very greasy, disheveled hair and nails with brightly colored and up to half-chipped paint. Even in a young hipster restaurant. When ordering, I asked about gluten-free dishes as I had to avoid them due to an illness and I was told that there was only one gluten-free dish. (I understand in a Bavarian tavern, where a lot is thickened with wheat flour, but not in a modern hipster Asian style food restaurant in Munich) Just as a tip to the kitchen, if the big problem is the soy sauce with wheat: it is also available in gluten-free without wheat, everywhere. Then the waitress wasn't exactly helpful and couldn't really understand my questions. I wasn't sure if it was because of her impatience or simply because she didn't speak German very well, which would be ok, but she didn't really try to find something that would suit me. Then I felt uncomfortable asking if you can make one or the other dish super easy gluten-free, because I know my way around and you can simply leave out or replace breading made from flour or soy sauce or whatever it is. Then I just took it and the dish ordered what I had left. The edamame for starters didn't taste that great, more like they had been warmed up twice and served carelessly pressed into a “stylish” steamer made of bamboo. In addition, a salt shaker with probably cheap kitchen salt. I have already had such edamame served much cheaper but much more lovingly and deliciously. The main course with “marinated Tofu “already sounded good. But I got somehow listlessly cut vegetables with tofu, which tasted like you had taken natural tofu out of the pack, diced and briefly poured some brown sauce over it that you could just imagine. Almost only tasted like tofu on its own. It was way too firm, not even warm on the inside - somehow not really prepared and certainly not marinated. All the food didn't have a special taste - we expected delicious sauces, fresh spicy herbs, fresh fruits and vegetables and deliciously prepared tofu, but it was all rather boring. The noodles of my companion came unsuitably on a flat plate in a lot of sauce and also didn't taste particularly well seasoned. Only the drink alone, a homemade lemonade, was quite good. In the end, the waitress let us sit for a quarter of an hour after we said we want to pay. She apologized with something like "Oh, I'm so busy haha". During our visit - it was a Wednesday - four tables were occupied. In terms of taste, well - ok, maybe we just had a bad day or the wrong dishes, but unfortunately I cannot recommend it, there are much better restaurants with the kind of cuisine in Munich that may invest more in the kitchen and less in Instagram and web design. The prices on the menu are not exactly low either ...

Very clear recommendation! We especially liked the starters, which are great value for money. The staff is so accommodating and friendly.

When we ate here for the first time about a year ago, the shop was still quite empty, only recently opened and the food ... mega delicious! Although we all eat neither exclusively vegan nor purely vegetarian, we all tasted great. In the meantime we have left without a reservation because the shop is so busy. I'm very happy that things are going so well and that we have such a delicious and cozy restaurant in the neighborhood!

Have something delivered to me. A cheek what I got for 45 euros. It should be enough for 2 days, but the portions are so small that I ate everything at once and was still hungry afterwards! This restaurant is for rich hipster kids. No more!!

Fancy and super tasty dishes but long waiting time and partly unfriendly staff. They offer really great vegan dishes with reasonable prices, that you do not get that often. Can totally recommend the vegan duck, calamari and fried sushi. However we had to wait around 45min - 1h for our dishes. Also some of the waiters/waitresses was kind of unfriendly. The water we ordered came in a refilled & dirty bottle (not cool!). Still, I would come again due to the amazing food.

Had delivery a couple of times and it was so good! A big plus for the packaging :).

The food was very good but the service was the worst ever. 1 hour for the dishes, the beers were at room temperature. You cannot do restaurant service on this way, especially if you are really expensive.

Delicious food (decent portion size), great atmosphere & vibe and on top the staff was super friendly and funny and knew everything about the ingredients and allergens in the food. I will definitely come back to try other dishes!

Amazing :-) two happy chaps on a mates night out finally. Corona has left us stuck for quite sometime, wanted to check out this place forever now and finally managed todo so. Delicious food, rustic tho stylish interiors (tho we expected it to be more "hippie" a like as the name would make you believe *haha*) very friendly staff - if you have special "needs" let them know they´ll take good care of ya. I don´t do any added sugars nd stuff, kindly asked staff if it was possible to get my prefered dish without any added sugars/sweeteners and what not.. Well got what I wanted and it was delicious!!! Very thankful for such great service/customer care, the food was really flavorfull & fresh! Both our starters and mains where to our full satisfaction. Portionsize and price is okish - ...Iam a big eater tho ;-) Overall we will definitely come back - if you haven´t been make sure to check them out. The menue ain´t huge but it´s all you need really, focused on quality rather than quantity and don´t get me wrong there is plenty of options! One of the best vegan food I've tasted and super cozy atmosphere with very nice waitresses!

Nice minimalistic deco and atmosphere. Friendly staff and enough food options. Although the food was kind of disappointing. Mushroom burger was tiny like 4 bites and a bit boring. Dumplings were okay but also too small. No alcohol on the menu is just strange, is this a straight edge place? Plenty of vegan alcohol out there. Overpriced for what you get and waiting is too long for a small place as this. Can be definitely improved.

takeaway is just as good as eating in. portions are pretty solid as usual.

Ordered take-away on the website. Super simple, you can even select the time for pick-up or delivery. Delicious food!!! The Buns are very good!

They have very well done Bami vegan with mushroom and tofu. The lemongrass drink need some improvement.

Good vegan food, friendly service but INCREDIBLY slow. I liked the mushroom dumpling starter, and LOVED the mushroom bao burger main. My partner thought the dumplings were cold, and did not really like the Monk's soup. I would definitely eat the food again, but would not want to face the endless wait!

Another new adventure of the vegan Restaurant in Giesing, so excited but no strong character. The concept is mixed Asian fusion restaurant. Kind of Korean, kind of Japanese, kind of Chinese,, kind of vietnam-style decoration with hipster atmosphere. The service was nice but the food was just okay. Additionally there is unfortunately no Alkohol,,,

Hippie Chay is a vegan vietnemse. The food there is just so amazing!!! Once I had the bun bao burger with beyond meat, sweet potatoe fries and summerrolls for starter. Another time I had the poké bowl with tofu and edamame. Was also soooo good!

Tasty imaginative Asian vegan food, great service and cool fellow diners

All vegan place with a great selection of Asian cuisine. Definitely try the "best Banh Mi in town" for a Mayo based alternative to the usual Tofu veggie alternative you will find in other places or, my personal favorite so far, the Bao Burger with eggplant and mushrooms that offers some of the best all vegan burger sauce you will find in Munich. There is also a Beyond Burger variation available if you want to try the latest hype in meat alternatives... Prices are on the high side, but definitely one of the most attractive options in the area for vegans, veggies or anyone trying to stay off meat for the day.
